ART GUIDELINES

Here is an overview of our requirements for all artwork that we show. These guidelines are meant to ensure a professional presentation, and longevity for the artwork that we sell. We do understand that many artists have different techniques, and questions may arise from these guidelines; please, do not hesitate to ask questions if you have any concerns.

Number of pieces

We hang an average of around 40 pieces per show, and generally want a few extras on hand for curating purposes. So we require:

• 45 pieces available for a solo exhibition.

• 25 pieces, each, for a duo exhibition.

• Generally 1–12 pieces for a group exhibition.

Art quality

All artwork should be of a finished and professional quality, structurally sound, and archival:

• Works on canvas or panel should have a full wrap/finished edge, with no staples/nails/screws visible, or be framed.

• Panels must be stable; if plywood is used, both sides should be sealed and a sufficient support structure should be used to prevent warping.

• All flat media (paper/prints/photos/etc.) to be displayed on our gallery walls should be framed or professionally mounted.

• Flat media to be displayed in racks should be encased in cellophane envelopes, with the following on the back: Name, Title, Original/Print/Edition, Price. Mats are optional.

• Low-glare glass is greatly preferred, for framed work.

• Proper precautions should be taken for all work that is UV sensitive (UV glass or sealant).

• Pieces that use spray-adhesive, hot glue, or other impermanent fixatives will not be accepted.

• Pieces that utilize wax media should be noted; they need special consideration in our space, due to possible sun and heat exposure.

• All artwork must have wires or cleats for hanging. Other methods will be considered, with prior notice and consent.

• Our walls are painted-burlap covered OSB, so weight is generally not an issue.

• If there are any unusual requirements for displaying your artwork, please let us know!

Generally, if your artwork is presented professionally, and your artwork is created to last, that's what we're looking for.

GALLERY LAYOUT

Grid lines are 12", with 2" subdivisions. Red walls are for hanging artwork, D1 & D2 are display cases, W1 & W2 are window-facing walls.

TERMS OF ENTRY

Renegade Red will consider submissions, and notification of acceptance will be provided via e-mail. Only complete proposals that adhere to Renegade Red’s submission guidelines will be considered. Renegade Red strives to create a mutually beneficial environment for our artists and our clients. We show artwork that we believe in, because we are artists ourselves. We show artwork that will stand the test of time, because that's what our clients demand. And we show artwork that appeals to our clients, because that's the only way we can support our artists. These are our main values, as a gallery, and we choose artists based on these criteria.

All accepted artwork will be promoted through social, web, and traditional media. Renegade Red believes in continual support of our artists. As such, we will continue to market artwork after exhibition. But we also know from experience that galleries do not exist in a vacuum—marketing works best when applied from multiple fronts, so cross-promotion between our artists is strongly encouraged.

COMMISSION RATES

Renegade Red's commission rates fall into three categories: Hanging art, Non-hanging art, and Crafts

Hanging artwork

Any art that is displayed on our gallery walls. This category is generally reserved for primarily 2D original artworks, but may vary depending on the exhibition. We offer two options for commission rates for this category; our default is Option 1, if Option 2 is not requested by the Artist. If Otion 2 is requested, all hanging fees are due upon art delivery.

1. Flat commission: 50% of sales

2. Hanging fee + commission: $10 per piece hanging fee (double if 36" wide or over) +25% of sales

Non-hanging artwork

All artwork that that is not displayed on our gallery walls. This category includes sculpture, reproductions, or original 2D works that are not displayed on our gallery walls.

• Commission rate for non-hanging artwork: 35% of sales

Crafts

Crafts are generally hand-made items that have a specific use, other than as an object of art. They can include crafted goods, jewelry, soaps, furniture, and other trinkets. We do understand that there is a blurry line between arts and crafts, and will consider diverting from our standard commission rate upon request.

• Commission rate for crafts: 50% of sales

Hope to hear from you soon!
